During my interaction with BIAE, they have mentioned Continuous Professional Development (CPD) numerous times.

BIAE proclaim to have ‘the most rigorous CPD requirements in the whole beauty industry’ and they are ‘very proud to be pioneers in this area’.

BIAE members are required to achieve a minimum of 10 CPD points (1 hour = 1 point) annually.

Members get CPD points by attending events, courses and talks organised by BIAE themselves. The BIAE board checks each member’s CPD and awards points. The BIAE chairperson who gave me poor treatment was awarded 10+ CPD points by her fellow board members.

BIAE usually charge for their CPD events on top of their annual membership fees. For example, if I had attended two of BIAE’s courses in 2017 to get CPD points I would have been charged £935.

If I was a BIAE member, I’d have to pay the annual membership fee, any fee for insurance, and fees for CPD events to get the required 10 points.

I wonder if BIAE has any free CPD courses. If they do, are there enough free CPD courses to meet BIAE’s requirement?

Why are so many BIAE members failing to meet their CPD requirement?

Looking at BIAE’s website, I have found that many BIAE members have not met their minimum annual requirement of 10 CPD points. These members can still be found on BIAE’s directory on their website.

  • Why are BIAE failing to enforce their own rigorous CPD requirements?
  • Is CPD another tool used by BIAE to convince the public that there is more protection for us than there actually is?
  • Do BIAE mention CPD because it gives them legitimacy as a ‘professional body’?
  • Do BIAE promote CPD because it benefits them personally?
